Wear It Now Wednesday :: Fall 2014 Hair Trends - Go Retro

posted by: FIG

Happy Hump Day! Fall officially starts next week, so we are preparing you with information about some of the hottest trends to rock this season. Designers went retro with 60’s inspired looks from coats and dresses to hair and accessories. We’ve found a few of our favorite fall runway hairstyles for you to try!

Carolina Herrera kicks off our favorite looks with hair slicked back into a voluminous bun. Brush hair back into a high pony before teasing the pony into a large bun (your sock bun can also be used here) Secure hair with pins, and finish with a firm-hold spray to ensure fly aways stay put.

Nina Ricci shoed us the mod bob; hair has big volume starting at the crown of the head and ends just below the chin. The key here is the classic 60’s volume taking up the back half of your head (pay attention, this look repeats in our favorites). If this cut is too drastic for you, try a faux bob with helpful tips from our friends at Refinery 29

Bridgette Bardot used to rock the French twist, and now its back! DSQUARED2 took a modern twist to the classic up do by adding messy texture the carefully constructed volume. This look is easy to recreate for anyone who has layers, and they key here is going to be product. Use a root booster to lift your top layers, and a teasing comb to secure height. This look is easily achieved with slightly dirty locks. Our friends at The Beauty Department have a full tutorial here.

Versace kept their retro vibe simple and chic, with a blunt cut, and crown-back volume. The side part adds a modern touch to this classic look. If a blunt cut is too much for you to try, add clip-in extensions for clean lines, or flat iron your tresses for sharper edges.

In true Oscar fashion, de la Renta took this look to a dramatic extreme with the messy pixie. Made famous by Twiggy and other mod trendsetters of her era, this look is perfect for the girl-on-the-go. Add texture to your cut with styling wax and a medium-hold hairspray. Need some superstar inspiration for this drastic cut? Jennifer Lawrence, Julianne Hough, Coco Rocha, Beyonce and Shailene Woodley have all worn pixies, and we can’t argue with that kind of company.

What is your favorite retro-inspired look for fall? Share it with us on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter!

Between me and my husband we've owned more MP3 plearys over the years than I can count, including Sansas, iRivers, iPods (classic & touch), the Ibiza Rhapsody, etc. But, the last few years I've settled down to one line of plearys. Why? Because I was happy to discover how well-designed and fun to use the underappreciated (and widely mocked) Zunes are.
