Dallas FIG Spruces Up for Fal

DALLAS — The fall market at Fashion Industry Gallery, set for March 24 to 26, will feature an appearance by Ali Fatourechi, creative director and co-founder of Genetic Denim.
Fatourechi will be the guest of honor at an opening day cocktail party from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the lobby and the park. The premium denim brand exhibits at FIG’s Shop temporary show.
“Everyone is looking forward to March market,” said Shelli Mers, FIG executive director. “We have over 100 temporary lines signed up for Shop, and the permanent [showroom] folks said appointments are looking good. We just keep trucking along trying to get the best lines and stores in here.”
Located in the Dallas’ downtown Arts District, FIG specializes in forward fashion, jewelry and accessories for women along with some men’s and children’s wear.
Among the resources new to FIG this month are BB Dakota contemporary sportswear in Gallery 130 and Shop exhibitors Catherine Malandrino, Beach Bunny Swimwear by Angela Chittenden and Belle Noel fashion jewelry by Kim Kardashian and Pascal Mouawad.
Shoe and swim categories have been expanding, Mers noted.
“We have between 10 and 15 shoe lines coming to this market, which is quite a bit more than we usually have,” she noted. “Boutique 9 is new this time. And we’ve got a few more swim lines because a lot of our lines have added swim, like French Connection and Trina Turk.”
Mers is also planning the third annual Dallas Art Fair, which will occupy FIG April 8 to 10 with exhibits by at least 71 prominent art dealers.
“Operationally, it’s the craziest thing to move every tenant out the day after market and then build white gallery walls,” Mers said. “It’s a huge project. It’s like playing golf. If you hit one good shot you want to play again. I want to do it again as much of a nightmare as it is.”
